Our organization is unique in bringing together the worlds of reflective practice and
thoughtful scholarship. The Society consists of over 3,000 members representing a
kaleidoscope of backgrounds and perspectives from more than 80 different countries.
Membership, composed of academics, business practitioners, and consultants,
focuses on the development and dissemination of insights on the strategic management
process, as well as on fostering contacts and interchange around the world.
Throughout the year, SMS provides numerous opportunities for members to engage with others in the strategic management field.

SMS Toronto: Registration is Open!
SMS is pleased to announce that registration for the SMS 43rd Annual Conference is open. Join your peers in the multicultural city of Toronto to discuss this year’s conference theme: Aligning Strategy, Corporate Governance, and Resource Allocation in Turbulent Environments.
2022 was a busy year for SMS with the full launch of SMS’s online community, Member Circle, the introduction of a new SMS logo, the addition of new volunteer positions, and the first in person Annual Conference since 2019. We are excited to share the 2022 SMS Annual Report, where you can read about the previous year’s happenings.

After extensive engagement with many stakeholders of SMS and incorporating a detailed analysis of key issues identified by top global consulting firms plus consultation with leading global executives and business practitioners, the SMS is launching “The Six Big Questions of Strategic Management”. These questions are designed to inspire and focus conversations between industry and academia.
Our hope is these questions provide an outline of forward-looking and provocative ideas that direct interested scholars toward areas of research that can inspire business leaders toward impactful actions that better their organization’s outlook, overall performance, and create positive outcomes for society and the world.

One of the primary functions of the Strategic Management Society is to convene and conduct meetings and conferences for professionals in the field of strategic management. Research Funding
The promotion and encouragement of research and scholarship is another of SMS’ primary purposes. In support of this goal, the Society operates the Strategy Research Foundation (SRF) programs to award research grants to individuals or groups identified through a competitive application and review process.

SMS has officially joined IFSAM, the International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management.
